Package: gcj-4.2
Version: 4.2.2-3
Severity: important

Since gcc 4.2.0, gcj incorporated native support for linking to a static
libgcj (via the -static-libgcj option, as explained in
http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/Statically%20linking%20libgcj ).

The thing is that the static libgcj is nowhere in debian. That was a sound
decision to 4.1, where this sort of static linking was an almost
undocumented feature, but on 4.2 that's standard.

thanks

building a static libgcj requires different configure options. I'm not
going to enable this by default, because it would require two builds
and may result in differences in the packages required for development
as well. Debian doesn't have a strict requirement to buld the static
libs. I'm happy to integrate a patch which enables this for cross
builds.
