Problem with cross-compiling GCC for PPC under x86

Hi,

I'm trying to build a cross-toolchain for PowerPC under Debian Etch x86,
by following this guide here:
http://wiki.debian.org/BuildingCrossCompilers?highlight=%28cross%29%7C%28compile%29

I tried to cross compile binutils-2.17 and gcc-4.1. For the gcc build I
had to install also the 64bit versions of the libc6* packages to satisfy
all dependencies. While binutils compiles fine, building gcc already
fails during the execution of "debian/rules control" (error is something
like "couldn't find file debian/FFI"). The command seems to fail, while
patching the GCC's source code. Naturally this also breaks the run of
dpkg-buildpackage.

Did anybody else encounter this problem? Are there updated patches
available that don't break the build or can anybody provide precompiled
packages?

regards,

Gerhard
