Package: gcc-4.0
Version: 4.0.0-8
Severity: normal
Tags: experimental
gcc-4.0 from experimental depends on libgcc1 (>= 1:4.0.0-8). Thus installing gcc-4.0 requires upgrading libgcc1 to the 4.0 version. This can potentially break earlier versions of gcc that are installed on the same machine (e.g., gcc-3.3 or gcc-3.4), since they also make use of libgcc1.
Is it possible to make a separate version of the libgcc1 package and library for each version of gcc?

no, it doesn't break earlier versions.

no, there's only one libgcc1 package.
