Bug#311140: gcc-3.4: Kernel compile hangs
Package: gcc-3.4
Version: 3.4.3-13
Severity: important
Justification: fails to build from source
Hi,
This is probably not the _cause_ of the problem
but here is what is happening on my system.
I used gcc-3.3 initially to compile the latest
2.6.11 kernel image (installed from deb package)
gcc-3.3 randomly segfaulted.all the time, while
compiling. reportbug told me that this was fixed
in gcc-3.4 . after installing 3.4 and pointing
/usr/bin/gcc to it i recompiled. but someway
in the middle it just stopped. i tried to bg
it and kill the process and try again but then
i got it into a bizarre state. a killall -TERM make
just hung there. a killall -9 make hung[???]
even worse opening another console and trying
ps auwwx just hangs.
my initial doubt was it was a disk issue
as _another_ disk but same system has caused problems
but i cant find _any_ messages in /var/log/messages
whatsoever.
sorry if this is not related to gcc-3.4 but is a more
general issue.
thanks
