Package: kernel-image-2.6.6-1-generic
Severity: normal

This applies to a rev1 miata (the one with the CIA hardware bug).

With a stock 2.6.6-1-generic kernel it crashes as soon as it initilizes
the SCSI controller. This is documented and can be fixed by undoing the
debian patch to core_cia.c. But with this rebuilt kernel, I get this,
just after scsi has been initilized and before root is mounted:

Jul 28 21:01:20 alpha kernel: VFS: Can't find ext2 filesystem on dev

Jul 28 21:01:20 alpha kernel: XFS mounting filesystem sda1

Yes, "/" is XFS, as are all other filesystems (I have an aboot that
supports XFS). Don't think it's that though.

The system continues to boot, but fearing FS damage, I didn't do much
with it.

"loadmodules" on the inird contains:
modprobe -k xfs
modprobe -k sd_mod
modprobe -k unix 2> /dev/null
modprobe -k sym53c8xx

kernel-2.4.26, with the core_cia patch undone works fine. This is the
"vorlon-fixed alpha kernel" mentioned on the debian linux-alpha list.

The scsi card is a sym53c895 Ultra80/LVD card. 2.6.x uses the
sym53c8xx_2 module, 2.4.x defaults to sym53c8xx. But at least with 2.4.26
I can use the sym53c8xx_2 without any problem as well.

system runs an uptodate "testing" release.
