Package: libstdc++5
Version: 1:3.3.4-13
Severity: grave
Tags: sarge

I upgraded a sarge hppa box to the latest bits, which brought in
libstdc++ 3.3.5-5.  apt & aptitude began segfaulting:

dannf@palinux:~$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading Package Lists... Done
Segmentation faulty Tree... 0%
dannf@palinux:~$ sudo aptitude update
Reading Package Lists... Done
Segmentation faulty Tree... 0%

I downgraded libstdc++ from 3.3.5-5 to 3.3.4-13 and the problem went away.
