merulo's testing currently has
 ii  gcc-3.3              3.3.4-13             The GNU C compiler
 ii  binutils             2.15-5               The GNU assembler, linker and binary utilities

cvm-0.20 with the same setup builds fine here, see
 merulo.debian.org:/home/pape/cvm.build.log.testing
 (merulo.debian.org:/home/pape/dietlibc.build.log.testing)
