Bug#272020: Install Base System download failure - HPPA

During course of
install routine using boot CD created from
"Install Base
System" fails after 12% returning error: "Could not download
gcc-3.0-base".
/var/log/messages repeats several lines of "no volume groups
found"
tried several
different U.S. and 1 Canadian mirror.
I am not terribly
familiar with Debian linux install by any means but interpreted
messages
to mean
the requested package was not available or found at FTP
site.
