Please can you explain what exactly that means? Does it mean you have
reassigned to bug to the package containing 'update-alternatives'?

Since a bug clearly *does* exist (although possibly not inside the gcc
package), I presume/hope that the above does *not* mean that the bug 
will simply be ignored, right?
