The list of the packages is the following:
gij
libgcj4
libgcj-dev
libgcj-common
gcj
libffi2
libffi2-dev
gnat

This is triggerd by this line in debian/rules.def
no_java_archs := hppa hurd-i386 mips mipsel freebsd-i386 netbsd-i386

So it's not really a bug, but rather a will from the maintainers. 
However, I don't know why.

I agree that, if possible, java should be build on all architectures.
