Package: apt
Version: 0.5.5.1
Severity: grave
Tags: sid
Justification: renders package unusable

on some (rather old) machines apt-get breaks and says "Illegal instruction".
happens with 0.5.5.1 while 0.5.4 is ok. so downgrading 'fixes' this problem.

here's the output from strace:

Closing these reports now. Debian now ships a kernel image
(kernel-image-2.4.21-3-386), which avoids these reports:

  * Enabled 486 emulation in 386 flavour.
