Unfortunately, the -mieee on alpha-linux thing didn't work. The lapack
build fails for the same reason.
For details, see the alpha buildd log, and search for cabs.c, you'll see it's sometimes built with -mieee and sometimes without. Apparently, when it matters, it's built without.
