the error:

	octave2.1 -q batch_test.m
	make[1]: *** [check] Segmentation fault

This can be closed. Octave2.1 (now at 2.1.39-1) builds merrily on ia64, and
octave-forge (now at 2002.05.09-5) builds as well on ia64, see 
     http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?pkg=octave-forge

I am closing this bug report.  If someone with access to ia64 wants to check
gcc/g++-3.2, that would still be welcome.
