good and bad news:

good first: it compiles and you get .deb packages. i changed
debian/rules in so far that i did s/g77/g77-3.1/ at the arm
section and i also removed the OPTOPTS commentcharacter and added
a -O0.
btw. the same thing happens with -O2 so it compiles even with
higher optimizations but don't know if that counts.

bad: 100 tests seem to fail. 3 aborted due to SIGILL and
the rest (97) aborted with SIGSEGV. i don't know if there are in
sum 100 tests or if there are more than that. i hope for the
latter. haven't looked at the build log that closely.

do you want the build log attached to this bug report? because
it's roughly 418kB large. or should i put it at some location?
maybe people.d.o or some such, so that it is kept longer. the
latter isn't a good solution and the first isn't also that nice.
so what do you want?
meanwhile you can get it from
http://people.debian.org/~othmar/lapack_g77-3.1.log

for the maintainer: i added you to the list because it affects
your package and at least some progress is made, maybe you can
say something about these tests.

so long
Othmar
