Yes, it does (-8 is in the pool for Alpha). I haven't looked into the
weak sym problem on Alpha yet (still busy trying to catch up from the move
:-P). I saw similar on my i386, though....

Yes, I saw that :-) Definitely saves me a bit of work (although I do have
bugs to fix).
