The same way spam reaches everywhere else: a spammer sends the list a
message using his or (someone else's) email address.  If we made it
impossible for spammers to abuse the list, we'd also exclude many more
people who are less technically skilled than spammers, like the folks
we're trying to help.  I'd rather get the occasional spam than deprive
a good chunk of our audience a voice.

All we can do is figure out how to create a world without spammers. :)
