Also, we've been discussing about making the FontForge Python scripting
module, and NodeJS, a mandatory part of FontForge, since we are adding new
features in Python and HTML/CSS/JS. Will that be okay for Debian packaging?

Hmm, python is okay but I'm not sure for Node.js, some of my Debian friends
said sometimes npm is horrible, it is just what I know about node ;)
Maybe situation would be changed, but I don't know. I hope massive change
would be integrated into fontforge master after our Jessie release...

There are quite a few node-xxxx packages in debian repository. If you
don't want to depend on npm, you can simply package the needed node
modules as debian packages.
