The new packages should "Replaces" the old one, as you did, but also provide and conflict: Replaces: font-hosny-amiri (<< 0.009) Conflicts: font-hosny-amiri (<< 0.009) Provides: font-hosny-amiri Once the new package is in the archive, you'll have to ask for the old source (and binary) package removal in unstable and testing. Also, you'll need to reassign bugs from the old package to the new package.
