This way you can see, how poorly this font performs, when it is used
for reading circled and Ainu Katakanas:
You must have some locale that uses UTF-8 and everything else must be
UTF-8-clean. Give this command:
uxterm -fa 'VL Gothic' -fs 12 &
Then give this command in that (u)xterm:
w3m 'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katakana'
Scroll down to section telling about circled katakanas and Ainu
extension of katakanas. You see nothing but boxes there:
