I then looked at the bugreports for fonconfig to see if I could find anything related to this and stumbled in #456963 and noticed this: zino@crap:~/temp$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig Cleaning up font configuration of fontconfig... Cleaning up category cid.. Cleaning up category truetype.. Cleaning up category type1.. Updating fontconfig cache for /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-sil-abyssinica Updating font configuration of fontconfig... Cleaning up category cid.. See /var/log/fontconfig.log for more information. done. Not sure they're related, but it certainly looks like fontconfig's having some problems. Will try to narrow down the problem a bit more and eventually reassign the bugreport to fonconfig once I'm more confident is not a dejavu problem. Sorry for the late reply but I'mcurrently very busy. regards, Davide
