People, Steve White is the person who's currently taking over the maintenance of the Freefont fonts. Among his projects for the font, he would want to continue extending the font coverage and, in one of our discussions, mentioned proposals he got to include more glyphs in the Indic ranges of Unicode (so said below). He would also probably welcome patches and fixes for the ranges that are already in freefont (Devanagari, Bengali, at least...). I think that it's a good opportunity to enhance that historically free font. Please get in touch with Steve if interested. ----- Forwarded message from Steve White <stevan.white@googlemail.com> ----- Date: Tue, 12 Feb 2008 23:17:06 +0200 From: Steve White <stevan.white@googlemail.com> To: Christian Perrier <bubulle@kheops.frmug.org> Subject: Re: [Freefont-bugs] What's next? It was Paul Wisewho wrote me, and it was about the Debian package http://packages.debian.org/sid/ttf-mph-2b-damase It is a collection including apparently hand-drawn glyphs for several Indian character ranges. They aren't beautiful (to my eyes), but perhaps could be useful. I have read that the range of glyphs in the Kharo??hī range there is not usable as-is, because of a lack of font features. The base requirement for a range of glyphs to be included, will be that they are useful for rendering text for the main purpose (here, text in the given language). So: If a speaker of these languages could tell me, if these glyphs are adequate for rendering text, that would be helpful. Then I would want to know how they look.
