Hello Steve,

I read about you taking the maintenance of Freefont over. That's great
news.

I'm no longer the maintainer of the Debian package, which has been
taken over by Davide Viti (zinosat@tiscali.it) and the Debian Fonts
packaging team.

I think that most of your concerns above would be better answered by
some members of the team, but still:

- I think that all changes in the Debian packages are reflected in
bugs reported to upstream as you found it

-
svn://svn.debian.org/svn/pkg-fonts/packages/ttf-freefont/trunk/debian
and more particularly the "patches" subdirectory will provide you
with our current set of patches.

For sure, Freefont has many problems and having someone dealing with
them is great. It is actually a quite important part for Debian as the
font is used in the Debian installer (graphical version).

I hope that this mail exchange will help you out getting more help
maintaining Freefont. I CC the fonts packaging team in Debian
(pkg-fonts-devel@lists.debian.org, opened posting, IIRC).
