Package: ttf-dejavu-extra
Version: 2.20-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

the latest update closed bug #440142 [1] and this brought to my
attention the fact that some DejaVu variants are called Italic, while
others Oblique:

=====
luca@gismo:~$ dpkg -L ttf-dejavu-extra | grep Italic
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerifCondensed-BoldItalic.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerifCondensed-Italic.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerif-BoldItalic.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSerif-Italic.ttf

luca@gismo:~$ dpkg -L ttf-dejavu-extra | grep Oblique
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansCondensed-BoldOblique.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansCondensed-Oblique.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSans-BoldOblique.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSans-Oblique.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansMono-BoldOblique.ttf
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-dejavu/DejaVuSansMono-Oblique.ttf

luca@gismo:~$
=====

This happens in the package description as well.

While I'm not a font expert, I guess that italic and oblique refers to
the same font variant. This can generates confusion.

Could one name can be chosen once for all, please?

Thx, bye,
Gismo / Luca

Italic and Oblique are not the same. See

No, unless someone draw Italic glyphs for Sans and Mono. I'm closing this
bug now.
