Here's the best I could come up with so far:

Description: Vera font family derivate with additional characters
 Popular FLOSS font based on the Bitstream Vera version 1.10 with
 the aim to provide a wider range of characters while maintaining the
 original look and feel. The main goals are quality and range coverage;
 current direction is towards MES-1 and MES-2 conformance.
 DejaVu fonts are intended for use on low-resolution devices (mainly computer
 screens) but can be used in printing as well.

I also looked at the desciption used by other distros, and funnily enough the
Debian description currently used is the only one differing from the others (and
I'm not counting Ubuntu...)
