Timeout using ipchains

Hi everybody

I think i have a problem with ipchains on a 2.4.18-6mdk linux. I say 
that i think because i don't know where the problem is.

The problem is:

- I have a firewall/router configured to provide internet access to my 
LAN. I also have another LAN site connected with a point-to-point line.

The traffic is routed through internet or the other site LAN by this 
machine. My problem is that very often i obtain errors on the connection 
to the other LAN site, saying that the connection is lost.

This only occurs when the traffic is routed by this gateway (my LAN 
default gateway), not through the real router. If i configure an static 
route on a client the connection hasn't any disconnection.

I suspect that there is something wrong with the ipchains firewall or 
the routing protocol.

Any idea would be very appreciated.
