Internet Gateway setup

Hello all:

Would someone either tell me how or point me toward
some information on how to set up an internet gateway
and firewall for my LAN that connects to the internet
via modem?

I would like the gateway to be able to listen for
requests from the LAN for the internet and then dial
out and share its modem connection.  While at the same
time acting as a firewall.
