Can you post the output of "uname -a"?  This will tell your kernel 
version.  You need a 2.4.x kernel to use iptables.  If you get 2.2.x, you 
need to look for a 2.4 kernel...  "apt-cache search kernel-image"  Look 
for 2.4.18.  I think the package you need is "kernel-image-2.4.18-686".
