ADSL in France

Hi all,
I just moved to Debian this week, on a machine that will become my
LAN's NAT. For the moment, I use a RH 7.1 with 2.4.13 and iptables to
do that, connected to the Net with an USB ADSL Modem. It works pretty
well on my RH box, but I didn't manage to connect with the Debian one.

The modem is an USB Speedtouch from Alcatel, and I run the driver from
Benoit Papillaut. It is a user-space PPPoA driver, as I know. The
driver manage to bring the ADSL link, but the
# pppd call adsl
doesn't bring up the ppp* interface. All I have with
# ifconfig
are eth0 and lo, and with
# ifconfig ppp0
I see an inactive ppp0 interface (e.g. no IP address)

Does someone see what my problem would be ? I will try this week with
an ethernet Modem, I also welcome any comment of someone using it...

Technically,
le Moine Fou
