HP 1/8 Ultrium 448 G2 Tape Autoloader -- installation issue

Dear All,
I am trying to install in Debian etch.

Tape Drive
Ultra320 SCSI Host Bus Adapter
HP 1/8 Ultrium 448 G2 Tape Autoloader

Host Server
HP Proliant DL385 G2 Rack Server with AMD Opteron 64 bit,
HP Smart array p400/512MB BBWC Controller (RAID 5),  146GB x 4 HDD

Linux, I am using is
Linux version 2.6.18-4-amd64 (Debian 2.6.18.dfsg.1-12) (waldi@debian.org) (gcc version 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21)) #1 SMP Mon Mar 26 19:17:44 UTC 2007

I am facing problem with the tape drive access.

#mt -f /dev/st0 status
mt: /dev/st0: No medium found.

#tar cvf /dev/st0 /tmp
tar: /dev/st0: cannot write: Input/Output error.

but my lspci, dmesg and lsmod is showing necessary informations.
