I'm using a slightly patched mp3blaster to play sound, fyi.
The size is somewhat ok:
$ size /opt/mp3blaster-flac/bin/mp3blaster
text data bss dec hex filename
251021 8512 72344 331877 51065 /opt/mp3blaster-flac/bin/mp3blaster
plus it's the dependent libs, of course.
Apart from two small fixes i've added transparency support (so my nice
background shines through) and added support to decode flacs since that's
what i currently use as my preferred format.

I think the stuff mentioned below would be too big for my taste but YMMV.
