emsource -c newt

The patches are out of date:
Skipping emdebian-changelog.patch, unable to apply it.
Skipping emdebian-control.patch, unable to apply it.
patching file debian/files
patching file debian/libnewt-dev.install
patching file debian/libnewt0.52.postinst.debhelper
patching file debian/libnewt0.52.postrm.debhelper
patching file debian/libnewt0.52.substvars
Skipping emdebian-rules.patch, unable to apply it.

Any time that you see patches being skipped (with the exception of
emdebian-changelog.patch), it means some manual tweaking will be needed
to restore patches that can apply cleanly to the updated source.

Working on them now.
