Bug#409146: dpkg-cross: Should split out "Choices" in debconf templates to make translators work easier

Package: dpkg-cross
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

I also worked on dpkg-cross and I'd like to suggest a change to the
"Choices" list:

_Choices: None, alpha, amd64, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc

can be remplaced by:

# Translators: "None" here refers to "architecture"
#flag:translate:1
__Choices: None, alpha, amd64, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc

"__Choices" allows for splitting the choices list in individual strings.

The use of "#flag" is documented in po-debconf(7) and allows to only
have "None" to translate. The comment will go in the PO files and
helps translators to use the correct gender for the adverb.

Of course, you then need to run "debconf-updatepo" to update the
debian/po/templates.pot file

If you receive translations in the meantime, I suggest you incorporate
them to debian/po, then run debconf-udpatepo.

This will fuzzy one string or even mark it as untranslated.

To save translators work, a pretty complicated operation is needed
when splitting out "Choices". It is described in po-debconf(7) but, if
you prefer, just send me a tarball of debian/po with the new
translations and I'll send back to you the fixed PO files.
