First of all, we have some toolchains. And  they may even work for
mipsel, but I am afraid without softfloat (because this is something
tricky). Maybe Nikita kan give you more details?

Well part of the emdebian approach is based on that. I once had a
working version of that scheme, but as the tools have changed (and I
have a lot lesss time on hand to work on it) I haven't managed to update
them. They are in a beta fase, and can be checked out in the SF CVS.
Installing them with the --root option is something that did not break,
but be carefull to do it with a second package database, because you
will otherwise remove system files, instead of the files in the
different root dir you specified. See the wrappers (very basic stuff) at
stag.mind.be for the correct command line options.
