Re: request for diversion + please help to determine default targets

Hello Nikita,

Some useful links to document the refusal of the debhelper people and some mails
I exchanged with them about the subject.

Quoting "Nikita V. Youshchenko" <yoush@cs.msu.su>:

They want us to install binutils-multiarch. Well I don't think that is the right
solution for embedded developers. As the DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE variable is not good
enough, and if the CROSSPREFIX is readily available this should be a quite
simple fix.(I try to look into that tomorrow if I find time, those exams are
really bugging me for the moment. I hope I can answer your question about it by
then.) And it would relieve them of the burden of people always sending in the
same patch. I believe we should try to convince them with good argumentation why
we would like the patch included before we start diverts. Using the CROSSPREFIX
should solve the matter easily without having to mess around with a target list.
This way people can use non-standard names for there toolchains. Like for
example the toolchains of Dan-kegel (unless he changed that by now, I should
check that).

regards and keep up the good work,

Philippe
