But I have emacsen-common 2.0.8 installed as per the report.

The last step failed for me:

Reading package lists... Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 emacs-goodies-el : Depends: emacsen-common (>= 3.0.2) but 2.0.8 is to be installed
                    Recommends: elpa-bm but it is not installable
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
---<--------------------cut here---------------end--------------------->---

But succeeded by letting it choose my default testing version of the
package (40.0):

---<--------------------cut here---------------start------------------->---
$ sudo aptitude safe-upgrade
The following packages will be upgraded:
  emacs-goodies-el
1 packages upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Thank you for your quick follow-up and hopefully this is useful.
