I have (nearly) the same, but all in .gnus (gnus is autloaded at Emacs
Startup :) )

Really sounds like 140968. bbdb-autoloads was missing there. Can you
check this (/usr/share/emacs21/site-lisp/bbdb/bbdb-autoloads.elc).
