Emacs21 on stable - any joy?

Sorry - posted this on debian user and it _then_ occured to me that this
is the right place.

I'm running stable here and would love to try Emacs21.  Is the best way
to use the sources from unstable and compile them against unstable (if
that is even possible) or put the raw source code into /usr/local/src and
go from there.

On a slow dial-up I only want to make the big download once! so if anyone
has any wisdom as to the best strategy on this...........
