I don't think so. It a clean recent install of buster on a new
laptop. I've installed only the most needed packages (e.g. Emacs, TeX,
VirtualBox). I've installed also some proprietary drivers (some were
absolutely necessary, others were installed they will solve some video
problems).

Perhaps it could explain the failure of fwupdmgr (I'm running several
hours job of removing duplicates from a 2TB disk, perhaps at moments is
has high memory demands) but not the failure to start the service as
boot (if I interpret the log correctly).

Any idea how to trace the reason of

Mar 12 07:47:25 debian systemd[1]: fwupd.service: Start operation timed
