Any thoughts before I do this? I'm not a user of x32 so don't know
if doing this will cause any headaches (or worse).

There are three questions:
1) does it cause a regression on other architectures?
2) does it break else something on x32?
3) does it work on x32?

As for 1), the patch I submitted to efivar fixes things for me (both x32 and
i386 on an amd64 kernel, 64-bit EFI), but I can't really test elsewhere.

Commented on #776999 separately. I actually hadn't noticed it until you pointed it out. It's a good idea include the package name in the bug title so the maintainer notices that it's something he should pay attention to. :)

As for enabling efibootmgr, addition of x32 can't possibly break other
architectures.

As of 2), there was no EFI on x32 before, so no regressions.
As of 3), it does at least in qemu-kvm.x86-64.

As x32 is a new port with nearly no users (yet!), it's only 1) which is a
real concern for now.

Oh, okay. I'm not familiar with the x32 port so wasn't sure if it'll affect users of the i386 and amd64 ports.
