I don't need the hipster bit in the version number, so keeping version numbers slow feels more meaningful to me. Yeah, I becoming one of the greybeards more and more. However, I in fact quite like "incarnation" 2 and "incarnation" 3 (and later on 4 and 5 and 6). Incarnation is a cool term for this.
So, with a 12.x.y, we would loose our ability to re-incarnate ( ;-) ), at least in the version string. So, we should not do the 12.x.y thing and keep incarnations in the version string. IMHO.
