If Xfce works in VNC with xrdp 0.6.1 and MATE doesn't, then this is not an xrdp issue because xrdp has no notion of what is running in the VNC server - it's just a plain bitmap image.

It might, however, by some chance be a sesman issue, although I do not really know why.

Something about gnome-keyring comes up in my mind. There was something … Can you remove the gnome-keyring module from PAM and try again, please?
