Indeed I must be wrong, since I remember having to edit
/target/apt/sources.list during the install when I was testing the
install with apt-cacher-ng set up by mirror/http/proxy to work around
this issue during the Squeeze development cycle.
Replacing the wget test by an “apt-get update”-like one would work in
both hostile proxy and apt-cacher-ng proxy environment (and wouldn’t
force one to switch from one proxy to another during the install process
when using both).
