Fujitsu Futro A230 no X

Hi again,

I tried to dig a bit deeper, and I found out that the graphics card in this one is a AMD Geode LX Video
I also found a module for this graphics card at http://packages.debian.org/lenny/xserver-xorg-video-geode that I think might work...

But how do I get LTSP to push that module out to the thin clients when they boot? I tried to google around, but I don't find any guide for this. Anyone that has a pointer or link to how to do this?

Unfortunately we have 40 pcs of these (out of 110 thin clients in total), so I guess I will have to make them work somehow, to convince the schoolboard to make a switch to debian-edu..

Any suggestions are appreciated. I am used to linux, but not to ltsp and not so much debian, since we have used redhat and centos here. But debian don't seem to be much trouble, its just that I havnt really figured the ltsp part out enough to fix this without some kind of guide...

Regards   /George

Hi,

I sent down message to linuxiskolen@skolelinux.no but got the advice to send it here instead, due to more readers.

I work at a school where we today use a thinlinc system by cendio systems, but now we want to break free and use an open system, so Im trying out skolelinux.

Everything seems promising, but I run into one or two problems. The worst of them is that we sit with around 30 Fujitsu-Siemens A230 thin clients that I cant get to boot...

When booting it gets the dhcp packet to pxe-boot. But after it tries to enable the network card and to download the os it just goes black screen on me. I have checked the /var/log/syslog to see if I can find the problem, but it seems ok down to the end where it just gets stuck...

I attach the log from the start of the thin client down to where it gets stuck and nothing more happens with the client. The screen is off (blanked out) and there are no more communication on the network card (no blinking).

Im really stuck on this one, since Im fairly new to ltsp and i dont really know how to continue tracking this issue or how to modify the pxe-boot-file to test with other firmware or to see what makes the boot to stall.. I can just see, it starts loading the img-file and then it freezes...

Any one of you guys that have experience with these futro? Or can figure out what to do next to try to solve this problem?
According to hardwarelist on the net it is supposed to be a Realtek RTL8110 nic on these, but I have not confirmed it my self.

Log;

I got down advice from Petter Reinholdtsen and I think he is on the right track. I looked into the second advice down, but I cant find those scripts on my installation, which is the latest downloadable skolelinux available right now.

Sound like the kernel fail to boot properly, or the video driver do
not properly work.  Perhaps the clues from
<URL: http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2010/05/06/ubuntu-10-04-lucid-blank-screen-at-startup-workaround/ >
apply?

Or perhaps some firmware is missing.  Check out
