Firmware packages in use in Debian Edu, according to popcon.skolelinux.org
I did a quick test to see which firmware packages are currently
installed on machines reporting to popcon.skolelinux.org. Here is the
complete list:
% GET http://popcon.skolelinux.org/by_inst|grep firmware|cut -c1-95
2446 firmware-bnx2 15 0 8 0 7 (Debian Kernel Team)
4005 firmware-ipw2x00 5 0 1 2 2 (Debian Kernel Team)
4396 firmware-linux-free 4 0 0 4 0 (Debian Kernel Team)
5125 firmware-iwlwifi 3 2 1 0 0 (Debian Kernel Team)
6040 alsa-firmware-loaders 2 0 2 0 0 (Debian Alsa Maintainers)
6292 firmware-linux 2 1 0 0 1 (Debian Kernel Team)
7820 atmel-firmware 1 1 0 0 0 (Simon Kelley)
8455 firmware-linux-nonfree 1 1 0 0 0 (Debian Kernel Team)
8456 firmware-ralink 1 0 0 1 0 (Debian Kernel Team)
8720 grub-firmware-qemu 1 0 0 0 1 (Grub Maintainers)
10357 linux-wlan-ng-firmware 1 0 0 1 0 (Victor Seva)

These are the package missing on the DVD:
2.4 0.0 firmware-linux-free (notoncd) (notwanted)
1.2 0.0 alsa-firmware-loaders (notoncd) (notwanted)
1.2 0.6 firmware-linux (notoncd) (notwanted)
0.6 0.0 grub-firmware-qemu (notoncd) (notwanted)
0.6 0.0 linux-wlan-ng-firmware (notoncd) (notwanted)
0.6 0.6 atmel-firmware (notoncd) (notwanted)
0.6 0.6 firmware-linux-nonfree (notoncd) (notwanted)
0.6 0.6 zd1211-firmware (notoncd) (notwanted)
Perhaps the missing firmware packages should be added to the DVD to
make sure those that need them can find them even without a working
network connection?
Happy hacking,
