Summary: Fail to boot after installing on HP ProLiant DL385 G6
("illegal opcodes")
Product: Skolelinux
Version: lenny-rc1
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: System distrubution
AssignedTo: debian-edu@lists.debian.org
ReportedBy: pere@hungry.com
Viggo Fedreheim in Narvik discovered this problem when installing Lenny-test
on a new server. The installation went well, but when the system tried to boot
from the hard disk, GRUB failed to start and reported "illegal opcodes".
He went ahead and installed Ubuntu instead, and this time the system
booted as it should.
A proposed workaround is in
http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/forums/hp/hp-proliant-dl580-g3-illegal-opcode-89814.html
, suggesting to update the boot sequence on the server using a Ubuntu live CD.
Viggo was going to test it. Not sure if it worked for him.
