Hi Brian,You have found some old info. there. Take a look at the Debian-edu wiki and you will be in the right place.

There are already some large and disperse installations of skolelinux, so it could work for you. These guys are good people and very helpful, and they don't complain at all when I ask silly questions.
As for your cloud question, someone else will have to answer. I am just a user.
