I think you might evaluate this and if it sounds reasonable for Debian Edu
you should build a real Debian package / ask the authors to help you building
a real Debian package to save them some work they have to change Sid and
enhance Debian. I'm personally reluctant about everything that wants to be
even cooler than Debian and at the same time refusing to cooperate with Debian.
