I guess I forgot to announce my conclusion.  I concluded that the
mozilla-mplayer is the best one for us at this time, because it
 - embed video playing
 - support most (all except one which can be fixed by fixing RTSP to
   use TCP instead of UDP) test sites listed on the wiki
 - include video controls (pause, full screen, seek, etc)
None of the other reasonable alternatives seem to provide all
these. :(
It is now installed by default on the Lenny desktop and should be
working for most sites.  Please update

a non-flash based video site that isn't working.
