More investigation show that the trigger for this problem was the
propagation of a new munin version into Lenny. This happened
2008-07-18. The problem with wrong device permissions seem to nhave
been present for a long time, but as most packages run as root during
installation, it have not been noticed. The change in munin-node made
its postinst report any problems instead of ignoring them, and this
broke the install. A fix for munin will soon be uploaded to unstable.
The standalone install should work indendently of this issue, as
munin-node is not part of the standalone profile.
Happy hacking,
