ok, so what i gather is that you're using a "diskless workstation" built
using ltsp-make-client.
in /opt/ltsp/i386/etc/lts.conf:
LOCALDEV=False
reboot it and see if things work better.
though you might have to also disable the udev rules... hmmm... is it
adding entries to /etc/fstab on the client?
